Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd November – M56 Motorway Disruption

Jet2.com have been advised that there will be disruption affecting part of the M56 on 22nd and 23rd November that may slow down journey times for customers travelling to and from Manchester Airport. The work is to replace the Thorley Lane Bridge over the M56 that is situated between junctions 5 and 6.

Due to theses works there will be some partial motorway closures. Jet2.com have been advised of the following diversion plan:

On Saturday 22 November, the M56 Westbound (Manchester to Cheshire) will be closing overnight at junction 5 from 22:00 to 05:00 on Sunday 23 November.

  • Traffic heading to the airport from Manchester will not be affected.
  • Traffic leaving the airport for Cheshire will be diverted along Thorley lane to Junction 6 where it will be able to join the M56.
  • Traffic from Cheshire to Manchester will not be affected.

  • On Sunday 23 November, the M56 Eastbound will close at Junction 6 from 22:00 until 05:00 on Monday 24 November.
  • Traffic heading to the airport from Manchester will not be affected.
  • Traffic heading to the airport from Cheshire will be taken off the M56 at junction 6 and diverted along Thorley Lane.
  • Traffic from Cheshire to Manchester will follow the Thorley Lane diversion, then rejoin the M56 at Junction 5.

Diversion signs will be positioned along the route.

Whilst we are told that disruption should be kept to a minimum, Jet2.com advises all passengers to leave plenty of time to arrive at the airport as we will operate all flights with on time scheduled departures and check in will close at normal closure times.

Should there be any further updates they will be published on this page of our website.
