Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski resort
Tucked deep in Austria’s Glemm Valley, Saalbach-Hinterglemm got the winter wonderland memo. Here, chairlifts whisk you into a 270km playground known as the Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn – one of the largest linked ski areas in the country. The terrain is varied, the pistes are beautifully groomed and the villages are all about traditional Tyrolean hospitality. Whether you’re a first-timer, ambitious intermediate or a non-skier who just loves the mountains, there’s something for everyone around these parts.
Beginners will find confidence-boosting nursery slopes near both village bases, along with gentle blue runs that invite steady progression without pressure. The modern lifts make moving around simple and the wide pistes are just the ticket for practicing those turns. For intermediates, this area is a dream. Long, rolling red runs form a network that lets you ski for hours without repeating a piste. The iconic “Saalbach Round” circuit is a must-do. Piste pros gravitate towards Fieberbrunn. It’s a stop on the Freeride World Tour, so you can bet you’re in good hands. The black runs provide testing leg-burners, while the tree skiing can be magical on snowy days. And for non-skiers, the valley is wonderfully accessible. Winter hiking paths, cross-country trails, toboggan runs, snowshoe tours and cosy mountain huts ensure no one feels left out. The cable cars allow scenic access to viewpoints even for those not skiing too.
The location
Saalbach-Hinterglemm lies in the beautiful Glemm Valley in Austria’s Salzburg region. The villages sit at around 1000m above sea level, ensuring reliable snow throughout the season and providing an inviting, walkable base where everything feels close at hand. The region’s accessibility is one of its strongest advantages – just 90 minutes from Salzburg Airport. The mountain lifts rise directly from the centre, buses run smoothly up and down the valley and the entire Skicircus network links seamlessly into neighbouring Leogang and Fieberbrunn. You’ll find stylish bars, rustic restaurants and plenty of places to relax after a day on the slopes.

Freestyle in the fast lane
The Skicircus is a paradise for freestyle fans, offering some of Austria’s most exciting snow parks. Leogang’s Nitro Snowpark delivers progressive lines for beginners through to the pros. For little shredders, the Family Park U-Bahn's a fabulous confidence-builder. Then there’s the Freeride Park, an area that combines deep snow with specially designed obstacles.
Taste Tyrol
Saalbach-Hinterglemm serves up indulgent alpine flavours at every turn. Mountain huts dish out classics like Käsespätzle, Tiroler Gröstl and fluffy Kaiserschmarrn – perfect fuel for long ski days. Try Wieseralm for hearty plates with panoramic views or Soul House for modern dishes with a lively vibe. Down in the village, restaurants like Schattbergstube blend comfort cuisine with local ingredients.
Peaks, beats and après treats
The après-ski scene in Saalbach-Hinterglemm boasts both high-energy party spots and laidback alpine charm. Iconic venues like Bauer’s Schi-Alm and Hinterhag Alm kick off the late-afternoon buzz with live music, dancing and open-air terraces. For a more relaxed scene, head to Goaßstall, where you can sip mulled wine surrounded by rustic décor and farmyard quirks.
