Did you know a Jet2CityBreaks trip can cost less than a weekend in London? We’re now offering a fantastic £120pp saving on all winter city breaks, so why not try something different this year and do your Christmas shopping in Paris, Amsterdam, Dusseldorf or Cologne before relaxing with festive food and drink at the Christmas markets?

Here’s a taste of what to expect in each of the stunning cities – and we’ve picked out some of our best deals too. So, what are you waiting for?

Amsterdam

Known for its unrivalled nightlife and historic culture, Amsterdam offers Christmas visitors something truly special in the form of festive markets, ice rinks, food festivals and seasonal shopping.

From the traditional Victorian Christmas markets of the city centre to the trendy independent stalls of Lelystad, Haarlem and Keukenhof, there’s something for everyone in the Dutch capital.

At Leidseplein and Museumplein, winter holidaymakers will find stunning ice rinks surrounded by traditional wooden chalets serving festive food and drink. For a little added grandeur, head to the Jaap Eden ice skating centre to try out the 400m outdoor rink surrounded by fairy lanterns.

For last minute Christmas shopping, head to De Bijenkorf on Dam Square – a well-known department store that always goes all out with theatrical and inventive Christmas decorations. For gifts of the more unusual variety, try Beethovenstraat, a quaint tree lined street filled with stunning antique shops. Check out our Amsterdam winter city break deals below:

Dusseldorf

Widely regarded as having one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in not just Germany but the whole of Europe, Dusseldorf casts a magical spell over its winter visitors with seven festive areas: the traditional Christmas Market on Marktplatz, the Engelchenmarkt (Little Angels’ Market) on Heinrich-Heine-Platz, the Christmas Market on Flinger Straße, the Sternchenmarkt (Little Stars’ Market) at Stadtbrückchen and three other markets on Schadowplatz, Gustaf-Grundgens-Platz and Schadowstraße. Of course, no Christmas city break to Dusseldorf is complete without a wintery stroll along the Königsallee with its twinkly chestnut trees.

Düsseldorf remains one of the world’s fashion powerhouses and shoppers should head to Königsallee to enjoy a serene and tranquil boulevard with all the major stores you’d expect to find on New York’s 5th Avenue or London’s Oxford Street. Check out our Dusseldorf winter city break deals below:

Paris

The world’s most romantic city transforms itself into a winter wonderland during the festive season and Christmas visitors should make it their mission to see the stunning illuminations on the world’s most famous avenue, the Champs-Elysées. Hundreds of wooden chalets line the famous boulevard in the 8th arrondissement between the Rond-point and Place de la Concorde.

However, many would argue that Paris’s most magical Christmas experiences are to be had at the smaller markets, most notably the Village of Father Christmas along boulevard Saint Germain, the European Christmas Village opposite the Eiffel Tower and the stunning Montparnasse Christmas Village at Place Raoul-Dautry.

Visitors should also leave plenty of time between markets to hit the city’s historical department stores – particularly the food and wine offerings at Galeries Lafayette and Au Bon Marché. Hit the quaint shops in the Canal St-Martin area for bohemian goodies and stocking fillers and don’t miss the famous Shakespeare & Company on the Left Bank – a staple of the city’s love affair with literature. Cologne

There’s a reason that Cologne’s Christmas markets attract almost 2 million visitors every year. The ‘big four’ markets are located at the Cologne Cathedral, on the Alter Markt, on the Rudolfplatz and the Neumarkt, though those who prefer a more intimate feel should head to the Stadtgarten Christmas Market for a community oriented atmosphere.

Christmas shoppers have an endless amount of options, with Schildergasse one of the busiest shopping streets in the country – check out the glass flagship building for the Peek & Cloppenburg clothing store. Head to the 4711 House of Fragrances to purchase Eau de Cologne - the famous aftershave that put the city on the map. Check out our Cologne winter city break deals below:
