UK consumer champion, Jet2, has operated its busiest ever weekend, with a record-breaking number of customers jetting off for the May half-term from its airports across the UK.

On the back of restating its confidence in the supply of jet fuel this summer, the UK’s largest tour operator and third largest airline is reporting a record-breaking half-term, after hundreds of thousands of customers travelled on their well-deserved holidays over the bank holiday weekend.

Amongst the top performing destinations were the Balearics, Canaries, Turkey, Mainland Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Croatia and Bulgaria, as customers made the most of the key holiday date.

The record-breaking weekend comes after Jet2 recently confirmed plans to operate its flying programme as normal this summer, meaning customers can continue to look forward to enjoying their well-deserved holidays.

This upbeat position comes after the airline and tour operator received positive updates from fuel suppliers who have reported increased production and additional imports of jet fuel, and it follows a report issued just last week which saw Jet2 top a UK resilience ranking as the best protected UK airline against elevated fuel costs.

As well as leading the way for not cancelling flights and providing award-winning customer service, Jet2 was the first UK airline and tour operator to reassure customers that it will not introduce surcharges on any booked flights or holidays to cover cost increases, for example jet fuel. Put simply, the price at which customers book with Jet2 is the price they will pay. In an industry-leading move, Jet2 removed the surcharge provision across all flights and holidays, even though it has never been applied.

Jet2 is gearing up for a busy summer season and has a huge programme on sale, with a fleet of 139 aircraft taking customers on their holidays from 14 UK airports to destinations across Europe, the Mediterranean, Canary Islands and North Africa.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, said: “This weekend saw us operate a record-breaking weekend, as customers took advantage of the bank holiday weekend and May half-term and took off to the sunshine. Given the number of customers who travelled with us over the weekend, it is very clear how much people want to get away and enjoy their well-deserved holidays. With our famous Red Team looking after customers, holidaymakers can look forward to creating memories and be assured of a wonderful holiday.”

He added: “Everything is geared up and ready for a busy summer and our message to holidaymakers is that summer is very much on. We have always been very clear about our plans to operate as normal this summer, and the busy weekend shows just how eager customers are to get away.”
