Gran Canaria’s sun-soaked south is where you’ll find the biggest beach resorts. That includes popular Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas, where there are lively commercial centres packed with shops, bars and clubs. There are also some gorgeous golden shores, such as Puerto Rico Beach.
Some of the Canary Islands’ most wondrous landmarks are found in Gran Canaria. There’s the Maspolomas Sand Dunes that create a desert-like landscape, as well as the arid boulders of the Nublo Rural Park. Incredibly, on the same island you can also see the verdant valleys of the Azuaje Ravine and the seasonally snow-dusted peak of the highest point at Pico de Las Nieves.
Stay in the capital, Las Palmas, and you’ll have the chance to admire many different attractions including the stunning Cathedral of Santa Ana. The colourful tropical fruits of La Vegueta Market are sure to catch your eye too. And that’s not forgetting the Jardin Canario, Spain’s biggest botanical park, packed with exotic plants and trees.
