Passo Tonale ski resort
Straddling the border between Lombardy and Trentino, Passo Tonale sits high in the Adamello–Presanella range. This is Italy at its winter best: efficient lifts, long runs, purse-friendly prices and delicious cuisine. Though the resort itself is compact, you’ll find everything you could need for a ski or snowboarding holiday. We’re talking equipment hire shops, cosy cafés, traditional restaurants and a handful of bars. And the best bit? You’ll have over 100km of linked pistes, shared between Passo Tonale and Ponte di Legno, on your doorstep.
It's an ideal choice for beginners, with gentle nursery slopes right above the village. Once you’ve found your rhythm, you can practice your turns on the Valena and Alpe Alta runs. There’s plenty for intermediates too. Try the Contrabbandieri run, a rolling 11km which promises vast views. Piste pro? Point your skis in the direction of the Presena Glacier. Non-skier? Ride the gondola to the glacier for a hot chocolate in the clouds or go snowshoeing along tranquil forest trails. When it comes to après activities, think more laidback than lively. You’ll find slope-side terraces where locals sip Bombardino (a creamy egg liqueur drink) as the sun dips behind the peaks and mountain huts where mulled wine, polenta and melted cheese take centre stage.
The location
Passo Tonale is purpose-built for skiing, which means convenience is key. Most hotels are ski-in, ski-out, lifts are steps away and the queues are minimal. The village itself sits high on the pass between Val di Sole and Val Camonica at 1883m. Above it, the glistening Presena Glacier rises to 3000m, offering year-round skiing and breathtaking views that stretch as far as the Dolomites. So, prepare for your camera roll to be filled! The resort’s also easily accessible from Verona Airport, meaning you can maximise your time on the mountain.

Little boots, big adventures
Compact, safe, and easy to navigate, Passo Tonale is made for families. There are gentle nursery slopes, excellent ski schools and friendly instructors galore. Kids will love the Fantaski area, where snow games, tobogganing and themed zones turn lessons into playtime. Off the slopes, you can enjoy ice skating, snow tubing and horse-drawn sleigh rides under the stars.
From piste to plate
You can expect generous portions, local ingredients and friendly hospitality around these parts. Traditional dishes like polenta with wild mushrooms, canederli dumplings and apple strudel are staples in rustic refuges. Don’t miss a long lunch on the terrace of Capanna Presena, where sunshine, snow and steaming bowls of pasta await.
No time to be board
Snowboarders will be fans of the wide, open pistes and snow-sure glacier terrain. The resort’s natural bowls and smooth gradients are fab for riders of all levels. The Snowpark Tonale near Valena is the place to be for freestyle fun with jumps, rails and boxes to conquer.
