Poland’s a land of enchanting legends and Kraków’s no exception. The story goes, that the city was formed after the defeat of a fearsome dragon (Smok Wawelski) that’d been causing trouble across the region. Today you can see a dragon statue at the bottom of Wawel Hill – it breathes real flames!
Teal-hued rooftops, arched entrances and decorative silhouettes are the name of Kraków’s game, with fairytale spires completing the whimsical skyline. St Mary’s Basilica, Wawel Royal Castle and Barbakan Fortress are just three of the city’s unmissable sights, while the Christmas markets are a whole new level of magic.
The scenery in and around Kraków is surprisingly green and Bielany-Tyniec Landscape Park is a perfect example. It spans an amazing 65km sq and is a protected area with four nature reserves. Expect seriously stunning scenery, with forests, huge open spaces and monuments, too.
