New York City – a place I’ve always heard so much about. It’s been on my bucket list for a number of years and with a Jet2.com direct flight in less than 8 hours from Leeds Bradford Airport, there was no reason not to go over the winter period.

Our hotel, the Crowne Plaza Times Square, was in the perfect location to explore the city. Staying right in the heart of Manhattan was fantastic and being on Broadway meant we were within walking distance to top attractions such as Central Park, Top of the Rock at the Rockefeller Centre and the Empire State Building. It was a fantastic hotel location and ideal to maximise our time in the city.

Top Recommendations:

Book one of the many city passes. We booked the 3-day New York City pass which also included the hop-on-hop-off bus. A great way to visit all the key attractions in the city without having to worry about money. It’s also a good way of saving money also – essentially, the more you see the more you save.

Hop-on-hop-off city cruises.. The New York pass also includes a hop-on hop-off city sightseeing cruise. Seeing the city from the water gives you a totally different perspective of the Big Apple and the cruises are great for getting to Ground Zero for those staying near Times Square, and also to see the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and Governor’s Island.

• To get the best views of the city you have to go above the skyline and the Empire State and ‘Top of the Rock’ are great for this. We did the latter during the day and Empire State at night so that we could see both sides of the city. It's great standing at the top of the Rockefeller centre and seeing the Empire State from above.

Ice Skating and Central Park.It was great visiting Central Park during the fall, you see it in so many films but don’t truly appreciate it until you’re finding its hidden gems. If you’re lucky enough to get some sun then grab a quick bite to eat sit back and enjoy. A must visit in New York. Finish off your time in the park with an Ice Skate on the seasonal rink, a great atmosphere to end your visit to the park.

Ground Zero Memorial Fountains and Museum. A very informative and moving experience.

Elsewhere, don’t miss paying to a visit to Grand Central station and it’s also worth heading to the new World Trade Centre observation deck.
