Beyond the cities
Sure, Germany’s incredible cities are known for their incredible architecture – we’re talking Berlin’s Reichstag, Cologne Cathedral and Kaiserburg Castle in Nuremberg, to name a few. But why not head further afield to explore the dramatic Black Forest or fairytale-style Neuschwanstein Castle? Germany’s rural landscapes are pure postcard perfection.
Make the most of the markets when you visit at Christmastime. Potter around decorated wooden huts with a mug of steaming Glühwein and shop for local trinkets. Berlin, Cologne and Nuremberg couldn’t get more festive. But you might also want to pack in a few museum visits and even a Bundesliga match!
Savour German flavours
Picture yourself sitting down to dinner, leafing through the menu – if it’s a traditional German restaurant, you’ll be in for plates of schnitzel with sauerkraut or even spätzle, a type of egg noodles. When you’re on the hop, you can’t beat a classic Bratwurst – they even slather them with curried ketchup in Berlin!
