Further south, Gumbet’s surf-splashed bay is the ideal place to try windsurfing, scuba diving and jet-skiing. When the sun goes down, good times are go along its party-loving Bar Street.

If you fancy plunging into Turkey's largest wave pool, hit Didim Aquapark for the day, or make some marine mates at Dolphin Park. Culture seeker? The cotton-white thermal pools of Pamukkale and ancient wonders of Ephesus are in day-tripping distance. There are plenty of traditional Turkish bath houses to kick back in too.
