Sports Equipment and other Outsize Items

We are happy to carry sports equipment, musical instruments and other outsize items, providing there’s space available on the aircraft. Please ensure you have comprehensive insurance in place for these items, as an airline's liability is limited.

If you are planning to travel with outsize baggage, please allow extra time for the check-in process. Please also note that freight or cargo items cannot be accepted as passenger baggage.

Here's a guide to the allowances and restrictions for the most common items of sports equipment and outsize baggage. Please contact us for more information on these and other items, as well as to pre-book your sports equipment that’s not part of your standard allowance, or any other item listed below requiring our approval for carriage.

Items not forming part of your standard allowance should be pre-booked either when you book your flight online or by contacting us. Because space on board an aircraft is limited, we may not be able to accept these items if they have not been pre-booked before travel.

Any items that exceed your weight allowance will be charged for in line with our excess baggage policy, subject to space and availability. Please see the Hold Baggage Allowances and Excess Baggage section of these FAQs for more information.

Please note, if you book to travel with a bike in the aircraft hold, you can't change this for a suitcase at a later date.

Musical Instruments
If your musical instrument is within the permitted hand baggage dimensions of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm and weighs less than 10kg, it may be carried onto the aircraft with you free of charge as your one piece of hand luggage.

Alternatively, you may check your musical instrument into the hold for a £30 charge. You must ensure your musical instrument is properly protected from damage and that you have adequate travel insurance in place. The weight allowance is 22kg per item, and anything exceeding this will be charged for in line with our excess baggage policy, subject to space and availability. Please see the Hold Baggage Allowances and Excess Baggage section of these FAQs for more information.

Larger instruments, such as a guitar or cello, may be carried in the cabin on a dedicated seat, but this extra seat must be paid for. For safety reasons, a non-emergency exit window seat will be allocated. Can I bring and use comfort devices onboard?

Unfortunately, comfort devices including seat extenders, baby hammocks, flexible seat supports, knee defenders and headrest attachments are not allowed onboard.

We ask that inflatable comfort devices like mattresses, air beds and foot stools are also not brought onboard.

Please note, this also includes anything that would impact your fellow passengers’ use of their seat, including items that attach to the tray table, seat and arm rest.
