New Routes, Announcements

The Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace has announced details of a brand-new partnership with Jet2 to promote Thassos as a holiday destination to the UK market.

The UK’s favourite airline and tour operator recently put holidays on sale to Thassos for the first time, with flights operating to Kavala International Airport from three UK airport bases in Summer 27 – BirminghamManchester and London Stansted.

The route from London Stansted Airport to Kavala is exclusive to Jet2, and the addition of Kavala as the company’s newest airport gateway means that Jet2.com operates to 16 Greek airports, more than any other UK carrier.

The brand-new flying programme for customers wanting to book a holiday to Thassos is as follows:

  • Birmingham Airport – weekly Wednesday services operating from 12th May to 29th September.
  • London Stansted Airport - weekly Tuesday services operating from 11th May to 28th September. This route is exclusive to Jet2.
  • Manchester Airport – two weekly services (Tuesday and Friday) operating from 11th May to 1st October.

Holidaymakers travelling to Thassos with Jet2 can enjoy ATOL protected package holidays with Jet2holidays, as well as having the opportunity to experience the industry-leading customer service which has seen the brand be recognised as a Which? Recommended Provider for eleven consecutive years.

ATOL-protected package holidays with Jet2holidays include VIP customer service and return transfers, along with a generous 22kg baggage allowance and friendly flight times with Jet2.com all for a low £60 per person deposit.

To help boost visitor numbers from the UK, the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace and Jet2 will work together to promote Thassos as an idyllic escape for UK holidaymakers. The stunning island is one of Greece’s best kept secrets and promotional activity will focus on how the island is a perfect choice for families as well as couples.

The Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Christodoulos Topsidis, stated:

“We are particularly pleased with our cooperation with Jet2, as it represents a significant recognition of the momentum that the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has developed on the international tourism map.”

He added: “The strengthening of Kavala’s air connectivity directly with the United Kingdom market opens new pathways for our Region and especially for Thassos, a destination of authentic hospitality that meets modern travel trends and visitor expectations. We look forward to a successful and long-term partnership that will contribute positively both to the visitor experience and to the enhancement of tourism development in our region.”

Jacob Bramley, General Manager of Airports & Tourism Organisations at Jet2 said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace to promote the stunning island of Thassos, which is our newest destination. Working in partnership has always been critical to us in terms of delivering continued success and it is something we look forward to doing with the region for the long-term. We are very grateful for this co-operation and we are very excited about launching to this fantastic brand-new destination.”
