Tignes ski resort

Sitting at over 2,000 metres high, Tignes is one of the most snow-sure resorts in Europe and boasts a vast network of runs across to neighbouring Val d’Isère. Here, it’s all about variety, from wide, confidence-boosting blues to heart-pounding blacks. Plus, the Grande Motte Glacier guarantees skiing almost year-round, with breathtaking views to boot. The slopes down to Le Lac and Val Claret are particularly popular, so be sure to give them a go. Want to test your mettle? Point your skis and boards in the direction of the steep descents of La Sache. Freestyle fans will be in their element too at the Tignes Snowpark, home to jumps, rails, kickers and more. An added bonus? The modern lift system makes getting from A to ski a doddle.

When the lifts close, there’s still plenty to see and do around these parts. Après-ski bars spill out onto snowy terraces and restaurants serve everything from fondue to fine dining. Thrill-seekers can continue their adventures dog-sledding, snowshoeing or ice skating. Relaxation is easy to come by too, especially at the Lagon Wellness Centre in Le Lac. Here, you can unwind in the steam room, saunas or whirlpools. There’s even a three-lane waterslide!

The location

Tignes lies in the Tarentaise Valley of the Savoie region, just a few kilometres from the Italian border and only a few hours from Chambery Airport. Surrounded by dramatic peaks, it forms half of the Tignes-Val d’Isère ski area. That means you’ll have access to over 300km of runs – plenty for a week or more! Its altitude, between 2,100 and 3,456 metres, ensures reliable snow conditions from early winter to late spring. The resort itself is made up of several villages, each offering something a little different. Tignes 1800 is best for relaxed retreats, while Val Claret’s got the best access to the glacier.
