Jet2 Journey to Net Zero

Here at Jet2, we know that holidays are amazing. We also know they need to be more sustainable, so we can keep enjoying trips for the long term. That’s why we’re taking firm action, now and in the future, to reduce our environmental impact and be a responsible business.

By booking with us, you’re booking with the only UK airline to pay for every tonne of carbon emitted when we fly. Plus, over the last decade, we’ve worked hard to reduce our emissions through an $18bn investment in new, more fuel-efficient planes, a plastic reduction scheme and a ground service equipment electrification programme.

But now we’re doing even more.

Our ‘Jet2 Journey to Net Zero’ strategy considers sustainability across your journey – on the ground and in the air. And it’ll help us reach our target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Highlights of our sustainability journey so far

What do we mean by 'carbon covered'?

In a nutshell, we contribute to carbon offsetting. Put simply, this is where we pay to reduce greenhouse gas emissions somewhere else, to compensate for the emissions we generate. Some of our carbon is covered by government emissions schemes, UK and EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) and CORSIA, but we also voluntarily pay for every other tonne of carbon emitted by our flights, as well as emissions from our buildings’ energy use, and even our ETS free allowances. In 2023, this will total approximately 1.2 million tonnes.

Sustainability across your journey

Our strategy considers sustainability across your journey – on the ground and in the air.

Our commitments to you

  • Reduce our CO2 grams per revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) to under 60g by 2030
  • We’re committed to using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from Fulcrum bioenergy in Ellesmere Port by 2027, as well as achieving the UK (10%) and EU (6%) SAF fuel mix mandates by 2030
  • More than 50% of our ground service equipment will be powered by electricity, either fully electric or hybrid, by the end of 2023
  • By the end of 2023, we’ll have switched 80% of our single-use plastics to alternative materials across all our flights compared with 2019 levels. This means items we buy directly i.e. cups, cutlery, stirrers, drink lids and plastic bags
  • All our emissions that aren’t covered by existing carbon-pricing mechanisms will be covered by offsetting
  • We’ll reduce our net emissions via our new fleet, SAF in our fuel mix, supporting airspace modernisation and fuel efficiency, as well as offset our leftover emissions
