Airport Security

Airport security

Your holiday starts at the airport, but getting through security is a vital part of keeping everyone safe! On this page, we’ll provide some handy hints about how you can prepare, what to wear and some more information about Next Generation Security.

How to prepare

Before you enter security, make sure you’ve got your boarding pass ready to show or scan, along with all the things you’ll need to put in the tray. This includes your sealed bag of liquids (under 100ml), keys, e-cigarettes and any large electronic devices, as they’ll need to be scanned separately to your hand luggage. Listen out for any instructions from the security team – they'll let you know if you need to do anything different. And although you’ll have your passport, you won’t need to show this until you’re at your boarding gate!

What to wear

The contents of your pockets will also have to go in the tray before you go through the security scanner, along with jackets, belts, watches, jewellery and certain shoes. Keep this in mind when planning your airport outfit. That means making sure the bling's at a minimum, ditching the belt, and wearing shoes and jackets that can easily be slipped on and off!

Does my airport have Next Generation Security?

Rules around taking liquids and electrical items through UK airport security are set to change, with airports hoping to have necessary technology upgrades by 2025. For now, the current rules apply. Please see our handy blog post for more info.

The table below shows which of our airports are currently operating Next Generation Security.
