You might recognise the landmark behind me as one of the most iconic that Prague has to offer – the Astronomical Clock Tower.

Built just over 600 years ago, it is the defining feature of Old Town Square’s architectural collage.

Appreciating the clock’s intricate detail takes time though, so don’t be afraid to pull up a pew at one of the many different street cafes, order a drink and wait for the hourly show to begin!

On the subject of cafes and food, do as the locals do; experiment. An influx of Indian and Chinese restaurants complement the many traditional Czech eateries, giving rise to Prague’s growing reputation as a foodie’s paradise.

Take a walk over Charles Bridge, which is only 10 minutes away, appreciate its magnificence, and venture into the Old Town to take your pick of restaurants.

Whilst wandering back into the square – especially if you enter from the river side - you will notice 27 small white, paved crosses on the floor. These commemorate and mark the spots where 27 rebel leaders were executed after the Battle of White Mountain.

But all this walking deserves some refreshment. Weave your way through the side streets that lead to Wenceslas Square and you’ll be rewarded with cosy local drinking establishments, offering fine Czech beers at very fine prices!
