Love really was in the air at a recent Jet2.com Wings Ceremony, after Cabin Crew member, Louise Conlon, was surprised by her partner, Luke Denson, who got down on one knee and popped the question at the ceremony.

The Birmingham-based couple who have been together for over a year, after initially meeting as childhood friends, are the first couple to ever get engaged at one of the leading leisure airline’s Wings Ceremonies.

The Wings Ceremony celebrates Cabin Crew students who have completed their training and are starting their careers as Cabin Crew with Jet2.com. Joined by family and friends, students are presented with their certificates and wing badges at the graduation ceremony.

Louise joined Jet2.com in February and has completed four weeks of intense training to gain her wings. Her training included in-flight assessments, customer service, hospitality and security and safety training before securing permanent employment with the leading leisure airline.

Commenting on the proposal, Luke, who works as a coach driver, said: “Louise had hinted in the past that her dream marriage proposal would be at her Wings Ceremony, so when I knew it was coming up, I purchased a ring and got the wheels in motion for it to happen. I let my future in-laws in on the secret, giving them a look at the ring and updating them on my plans to propose at the ceremony. They were ecstatic and couldn’t wait for day to be here.

“I contacted Louise’s colleagues ahead of her ceremony to get them onboard with my plan too, and it was agreed that when everyone had been presented with their wings, they would call Louise back up and I would drop down on one knee. It all went smoothly on the day, and as soon as I had popped the question and Louise had said yes, everyone burst out cheering – it was an amazing moment. It’s funny looking back, as I can’t believe Louise didn’t have a clue it was going to happen given all the hints she dropped!”

Louise added: “It really was the best day of my life and one that I will never forget. From a young age, I have always wanted to work in the aviation industry, so my Wings Ceremony was already going to be a day I’d never forget. It’s now also the day I got engaged to my soulmate – I can’t believe it!

“All my family were there to watch me graduate, which means they were also there to witness Luke proposing. It was so incredibly thoughtful of Luke to plan it, as it was two of my dreams coming true at once.

“I can’t wait to start the rest of my life with Luke as well as an incredible and exciting career with Jet2.com – I’ll definitely be inviting my fellow graduates to the wedding!”

The happy couple plan to get married in a few years, with a manor house or castle being Louise’s dream wedding venue.

Louise concluded: “We are still on a high following our engagement and have already started planning our big day in our heads. However, my focus right now is getting stuck into my new job with Jet2.com and helping to deliver our VIP customer service, while taking millions of happy customers on their holidays.”

Jet2.com recently celebrated 20 years since its first ever flight took off from Leeds Bradford Airport to Amsterdam in 2003.
